Lucinda Boermans: Spheres of being

  • Fencible Walk Park 110 Picton Street Auckland, Auckland, 2014 New Zealand (map)

Spheres of being

Contemporary artist Lucinda Boermans hosted a local walk and talk 'Spheres of being' .

Lucinda drew inspiration from the following statement “stories go in circles. They don’t go in straight lines. It helps if you listen in circles because there are stories inside and between stories, and finding your way through them is as easy and as hard as finding your way home. Part of finding is getting lost, and when you are lost you start to open up and listen.” (Tafoya 1995, p.2)

Upon arrival to the grassed area, visitors were given a paper chit with Tafoya’s sentences above. Before they could read it, participants were asked to locate a point of vision, walk towards it and around the perimeter clockwise and then anti-clockwise, twice. Upon returning, they shared their thoughts, leading to Lucinda’s introduction to her exhibition.
