Dance Therapy NZ is thrilled to announce the launch of STARS, its Pakuranga-based dance movement therapy group for children with Autism, ADD and other special needs. DTNZ will be offering two after school dance movement therapy groups based at Te Tuhi.
The groups are led by a team of dance movement therapists who ensure that the sessions target the progress of each individual child while providing a fun, creative and expressive space. Not just a regular dance class, these groups give children the opportunity to develop essential social, sensory and movement skills, which can have a profound impact on their lives outside of the dance therapy group. Some of the amazing benefits of attending a STARS group include increased confidence, ability to make eye contact, try new things, manage emotions and interact with siblings and other children. Recently a parent from the STARS programme commented, ‘Dance Therapy provides [my son] with a sense of belonging. He enjoys the routine, the gentleness of the staff and familiarity he has gained with sessions and he has made friends.’
Although there is an overwhelming need in the community for creative therapeutic children’s programmes, STARS is the only programme of its kind in Pakuranga.
